Best of the Rest

Best of the Rest, An Indie Comics Podcast, is a reflective but not pedantic look at Alternative/independent comics both current and past. Hosts Dennis Chandler and Jay Loving delve into works from publishers such as Vault, Scout, Lion Forge, Fantagraphics, Oni Press, Hard Case Crime, Drawn and Quarterly and others. The cast is for everyone, whether you’re a reader of alternative comics, want to get started or just a curious onlooker. Listen in for Dennis and Jay’s lively discussion mixed with humor (they hope) about the wide-ranging world of Independent comics.

Best of the Rest is hosted by Dennis Chandler and Jay Loving and produced by Jay Loving. Get in touch with us via Twitter, @botrcomics, by sending us an e-mail.

Best of the Rest has released 69 episodes since launching on Jul 07, 2017

Dennis and Jay are joined by Eric from Kowabunga Comics to discuss a host of topics regarding the current state of the comics retail business.  How will Marvel's move from Diamond Distributors to Penguin Random House affect the business?  Can Diamond survive without the business of the Big Two?  How might this affect smaller publishers?  Also, a discussion on Kowabunga's  store exclusive issues of Shadowman from Valiant and Star Wars War Of The Bounty Hunters Alpha from Marvel. Eric talks about the process of getting a store exclusive and how it differs between publishers.

Martin and Dennis merge Nerdy Legion with The Best of the Rest and go down the rabbit hole of Non-Fungible Tokens and Crypto.  And this rabbit hole had a lot of side tunnels.  Enjoy this discussion that does delve into the philosophical discussion of ownership and money.

Dennis and Jay discuss comic collectability, what's the difference in a CGC 9.8 and 9.9? They also talk about what they are looking forward to in the coming weeks. Then a discussion about Zack Snyder's Justice League.

This is a lost episode from November 2020.  Enjoy

It's been TOO long since we recorded an episode, so this one goes in several directions.  Dennis and Jay discuss current comic book reads, what we've been collecting, gin, bourbon and whether or not twenty year old 5.25 inch floppy disks are still readable.
