The New Year is often a time for people to self-evaluate, set goals, and try to find ways to defeat the addictions and habits that they feel are holding them back from a more complete life.  By happy coincidence The Bibliophile Adventures Podcast is happy to welcome a new contributor, Adam S.L. (@RetroReprise on Twitter),who has recently felt motivated by Russell Brand's book, Recovery.  The book offers guidance on how to help yourself actually succeed in overcoming those things that seem unbeatable.  Enjoy Adam's thoughtful, honest, and insightful takeaways from Brand's book.  “This manual for self-realization comes not from a mountain but from the mud...My qualification is not that I am better than you but I am worse.” Russell Brand

This episode Michael from Germany shares on the works of Michael Moorcock, with a focus on A Nomad of the Time Streams a 1982 compilation volume of Michael Moorcock's early steampunk trilogy, begun in 1971 with The Warlord of the Air and continued by its 1974 and 1981 sequels, The Land Leviathan and The Steel Tsar.

In this episode, Michael from Germany (@SostheRope on Twitter) discusses Robert M. Pirsig's 1974 book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance:  An Inquiry Into Values.  Christopher Lehmann-Haupt described the book as an "intellectual entertainment of the highest order" in his New York Times review.  Enjoy the episode, and feel free to send your comments to 143podcasts@gmail.com or the Bibliophile Advenventures twitter.

This week on Bibliophile Adventures, Michael from Germany takes us into Patrick Rothfuss‘ 2007 fantasy novel The Name of the Wind. Told in Kvothe’s own voice, this is the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen. The intimate narrative of his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, and his life as a fugitive after the murder of a king form a gripping coming-of-age story unrivaled in recent literature. A high-action story written with a poet’s hand, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that will transport readers into the body and mind of a wizard.

“As with all the very best books in our field, it’s not the fantasy trappings (wonderful as they are) that make this novel so good, but what the author has to say about true, common things, about ambition and failure, art, love, and loss.”-Tad Williams, New York Times best-selling author of MEMORY, SORROW AND THORN, and SHADOWMARCH
